Policemen cry out against suspended promotion examination |
The rank and file in
the Nigeria Police have enjoined President Muhammadu Buhari to right what they
see as an act of injustice against them after their promotion examination to
the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police they wrote in 2015 was suddenly
abandoned.
The distraught Policemen said the President should direct that the promotion process, which had reached advanced stage before it was suddenly abandoned, be completed. They said they wrote to National Assembly and police high command on the issue in February this year, nothing concrete had been done, pleading that President Buhari should intervene.

They recalled that
those who wrote the promotion examination and those who passed were
interviewed by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in the various zones
and the Police Service Commission, PSC. “The successful candidates were
asked to come to Abuja with their service files, the files are still parked at
the E department in Force Headquarters, Abuja.”
The frustrated Police
men said they were shocked when suddenly the Police command abandoned
the entire process to commence fresh recruitment of civilians for the ASP cadet,
pleading that the Federal Government should revisit the abandoned
exercise that had almost been completed.
“Mr President, we were
waiting for them to call us, the next thing we saw was a fresh appointment
of civilian graduates into ASP cadet promotion course. Mr President, we the
rank and file in the Nigerian Police force decided to put up this letter to you
just because we perceived injustices had been meted on us and for the fact that
we have no union to cry out for us. We are running to you believing that
you will speak for us.”
